2021 Summer Camps
Our camps are led by experienced Museum educators. Our team approach implements creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication into each day’s lesson plan. From encounters with wildlife to exploring cultural heritage, your child will have an enriching camp experience at the Museum. Camps are offered by grade completed to children in Kindergarten- 5th grade and Jr. CITs (6th-8th graders).
REGISTRATIONS
Online registration will close at 12 p.m. on the Friday prior to each camp. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Early registration is recommended.
We understand that changes arise in scheduling and therefore allow for one change in date and time no less than 2 weeks prior to the camp date. A $25 administrative fee for program date/time change is applied to any change made in addition to the allowed change, or one that is less than 2 weeks prior. Please see the “Parent Handbook” for more information.
Camp is offered to children by grade completed by June 21, 2021. Children must be at least 5 years old by June 1, 2021. If you would like your child in a different grade, then please fill out the “Under Age Waiver” in the forms section and email it to registrations@tallahasseemuseum.org
Kindergarten: $170 member/$180 nonmember
1st Grade: $170 member/$180 nonmember
2nd-5th Grade: $205 member/$215 nonmember
(some weeks will have an up-charged based of the length of the field trip, that is noted in the description)
Jr. CIT (6th-8th grade): $170 member/$180 nonmember
(Jr. CITs will be in class with kindergarten or 1st grade; they are there to assist the teacher, but they are still considered a camper.)
Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm
(Campers can be dropped off at 8:45am and picked up by 4:30pm)
Extended Hours ($8 per day/$35 a week): 7:45am – 5:45pm
(Campers picked up after 5:45pm will be charged $1 per minute)
CAMP LUNCH PROGRAM
The Museum’s Trail Break Café offers a lunch program for K-8th grade campers. Lunch order forms may be downloaded from the forms section. Forms should be filled out by a parent or guardian and sent with payment to camp with campers.
Tree to Tree Adventure Camps:
Tree to Tree is only available for camps that are listed as Zip Camps, please see below for requirements. It is optional for your child to participate in Tree to Tree.
Parents must complete the Tree-to-Tree e-zwaiver no more than 24 hours prior to day camp, OR filled out manually the day of the camp. Children 41” – 60” tall may use the TREEmendous Adventures Course, $15 per child. Children at least 54” tall may use the Canopy Crossing Course, $25 per child. ****Fees are in addition to the camp fee. This fee can be paid at drop off by cash, check, or credit card. Tree to Tree waivers must be filled out each time your child participates in the course.***

Parent Handbook 2021
COVID 19 Updates: To be socially responsible to our staff and our guests we are implementing and strictly enforcing the following health and safety requirements to assist our community in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Please keep in mind these will change as information is updated by the federal and local government.
All people must wear a mask indoors.
All people entering the classrooms will be required to sanitize hands upon entry.
Anyone with a fever will not be allowed to remain at camp. A child’s temp is considered elevated at 100.4.
All campers will be instructed to use hand sanitizer while in the classrooms.
All campers will be taken to the restrooms prior to and immediately after all snacks and lunch to wash hands with soap and water.
Staff will be instructed to assist with proper hand washing techniques and remind the campers what that looks like.
Doorknobs and handles are cleaned with a disinfectant throughout the day.
Any camper who becomes ill at camp will be isolated from other campers and parents will be called to come pick them up immediately.
June 14 – June 18: Fascinating Florida
Learn about what makes Florida so great and why people want to come here. From the beautiful beaches to the deep caverns, campers will learn why it is so important to take care of the environment around them. They will learn the importance of pollinators and why we should protect them. By the end of the week, campers will have learned about Florida tourism and will create an ad campaign highlighting the amazing state they live in.
June 21- June 25: Outdoor Adventure – T2T
Campers will discover native plants and animals while using identification books and binoculars. Outdoor play will be essential in learning how to safely navigate their surroundings. One day during the week, campers will even participate in Tree to Tree Adventures. They will be learn to appreciate the environment around them and be able to teach others as well.

June 28 – July 2: Zoo Crew 1
There are various reasons why animals live at the Tallahassee Museum. Campers will get to learn about those reasons and learn how the Animal Department cares for them. Campers will get to learn about diets and provide the animals with different snacks at the end of the week.
(2nd-5th grade will be taking a longer field trip this week, $10 is added to the normal registration fee)
July 6 – July 9: Grossology
Campers will spend the week learning about the things that make us say “ew”. We will learn about the digestive system, learn about decomposers, and smell all the fascinating smells of the Tallahassee Museum. Using our different senses we will discover the world around us no matter how rotten and gooey it might be!

July 12 – July 16: Games, Stories, and Adventures – T2T
Campers will journey to the 1880s and learn all about the games and stories of the past. They will learn about the history of different games we play today! Campers will also get to participate in Tree to Tree Adventures one day. Campers will get to create their own stories and share them with their new friends!

July 19 – July 23: Ocean Conservation
In partnership with SeafoodWatch and WhalesTimes, the Tallahassee Museum will offer campers a chance to better understand the oceans around them. They will learn the importance of conserving water and the creatures that live in it. They will get to Skype with a deep sea scientist. Campers will help design, make, and taste a sustainable seafood inspired snack.
July 26 – July 30: Zoo Crew 2
Campers will learn about animal enrichment, and why animals in captivity need it. Campers will understand the natural behaviors of the different animal species at the Museum and will spend the week making enrichments for the animals. Throughout the week, campers will introduce these enrichments to the animals. They will observe and document animal responses.

August 2 – August 6: Up, Up, and Away – T2T
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s a camper! Campers will learn about everything that flies from animals with wings the history of flight. They will explore the tiny wings of insects and the beautiful feathers of native birds. Camper swill get a chance to experience what it’s like to fly through the air when they go on Tree to Tree Adventures.

August 9 – August 13: Tropical Vacation – TBD
No need for a plane ticket! We will be able to enjoy the tropics right here. Learn about the complex tropical ecosystems from high up in the rain forests to warm waters of the coral reefs. Campers will enjoy different water activities and end the summer with a wonder stay-cation!
